When I started with the Hudson Valley Writing Project a few weeks ago, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect from the teaching community of the Hudson Valley. After all of the preparation and promotion, I was greatly satisfied and pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming enthusiasm the group brought to the event. Even at 9AM on a Saturday…
Beginning with a special Keynote Address by author and teacher, Tom Romano, the day was filled with excellent lectures on innovative teaching methods, in depth examinations of Common Core standards, intriguing prompts for creative workshopping, and readings of that in-class work that were nothing short of breathtaking. Seeing first-hand the weeks of program coordination come to life and, subsequently, change the way local teachers will shape the minds of the nation’s future, was amazing!
